Fresh Homemade Strawberry Lemonade

strawberry lemonadeMmm Mmm Mmm you can’t beat the freshness of homemade strawberry lemonade on… any day.

The sun is beating down, it’s summer. And you want something refreshing, quenching to your soul. Go no further than your own kitchen.

There’s nothing like a cold sweet-tart lemonade with fresh strawberries sliding down your throat quenching every cell in your body. You may think ahh summer treat. Summer delight. And you’d be right. But you can also make this delicious drink treat any time of the year with frozen berries.

Plus you can decide if you’re in a blackberry, raspberry, or a mixed berry mood. No problem… substitute any fresh or frozen fruit you choose. Maybe you like your lemonade tart or really sweet. No worries, add more or less lemon and sugar to suit your taste.

This treat can be made into larger or smaller quantities as you see fit. Make it ahead of time in a gallon jug without the fruit and add fruit before you drink it. Or make a smaller quantity to fill a thermos or on the go glass bottle.

If you use frozen berries use within about 48 hours of the berries defrosting. The berries get very mushy after this time. If you’re using fresh berries they last a little longer, but only if the strawberry lemonade treat isn’t guzzled down first.

Personally, I think fresh-picked berries are best. During strawberry season I make plenty of this strawberry lemonade treat from freshly picked berries, but I know the season won’t last long. So I like to take the extra berries and freeze them for later.

Another idea for this recipe is to run the mix through a blender or use blended strawberries then freeze them in containers for freezer pops.

Materials Needed

We use all organic and natural ingredients. That way we don’t need to worry about pesticides and GMOs. I prefer to use fresh local berries for they are the freshest, but you can also use fresh or frozen berries from your grocery store year-round for a delicious treat.

Half gallon container. I prefer glass and use a glass half gallon canning jar and lid
Fresh ripe or frozen strawberries. (or any Berries)
Organic raw sugar, or other organic sugar
Organic lemon juice or squeeze fresh organic lemons.

Recipe for Strawberry Lemonade

1/2 cup raw organic sugar
1 cup organic pure lemon juice
1 cup of fresh strawberries
6 to 6.5 cups of water (If you want your drink ice cold right away without watering it down – reduce the amount of water and replace it with ice cubes until the half gallon jug is full.)

Mix all ingredients in the order above. Cover the container and shake or stir well with a spoon. Make sure all the sugar is dissolved. Raw sugar takes a little more time to dissolve than more refined sugar.

Adjust the sugar, lemon, and water to taste.

Flavor depends on the sweetness of the strawberries and tartness of the lemons.

Taste a bit to make sure it is the perfect combo of sweet and tart for you and place the container into the refrigerator.
Ok have a little more before it’s gone, and then put it in the fridge.
